Wendy Marcus and Shawn Weaver recently gave notice (see letter below) that they will no longer be coming to Vashon to lead a Kabbalat Shabbat (welcoming the sabbath) on the third Friday evening of each month, a service which has been a musical and spiritual gift to all who participated. We thank them for coming across the water each month to bring such beauty to our tiny Jewish community. They will be greatly missed.
The Board hopes to continue Kabbalat Shabbat gatherings on third Fridays, now as a DIY event. The plan is to use our beautiful building.
Wendy’s letter to Havurat Ee Shalom:
My time on Vashon with Havurat Ee Shalom has come to an end. This is a very hard decision for me.
I am in awe of the time and effort [the Board] gives to your Vashon Jewish community. I appreciate all the kindness you have bestowed on me.
Shawn and I (while slightly under the weather) realized this past Shabbat how restful it was to stay home. We are both under considerable stress from our jobs and from all the family mishegas over the past few years. We need to make choices that keep our lives more balanced. We cannot fight Friday afternoon Seattle traffic any more. We need to carve out one Friday night a month to sit down with our family and be Jewish “civilians.”
I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the amazing Jewish experiences Shawn and I have had with your community.
With love and respect, Wendy
