Annual Havurah Board Meeting of March 19, 2017

Vice President Sherene Zolno provided the following report of our annual meeting:

“The Purpose of the Havurah is to bring us together as a Jewish Community.”

Havurat Ee Shalom’s annual membership meeting was held on March 19, 2017. All were invited and, in addition to the current board, many members came to help elect new officers, talk about safety/security issues, sign up for committees where they can contribute to our mission, and share ideas about possible new directions.

The agenda included:
  • Welcome, Louise Olsen, President,
  • Financial Report and proposed budget, Emma Amiad, Treasurer,
  • Election of Officers,
  • Committee Selections
  • Open Discussion.
WELCOME.
Louise noted that, with the building paid off, we are seeing an uptick in its usage.
In addition to the High Holidays, this includes Third Friday Shabbat with Wendy Marcus, the Zen Center, celebrating all important Jewish holidays, continuing Saturday Torah Study, plus Bar and Bat Mitzvah’s, weddings, baby-namings, musical evenings and stimulating, scholarly programs. The Jewish Women Gather for Tea, that met 3 times last year for great food and socializing, is expected to restart (as soon as it stops raining!) in 2017.
We are also reviewing replacement prayer books, and are excited to have found ones that are very user friendly!
FINANCE.
Emma let us know we are in the black! However, we have to fund major repairs to the roof and chimney by this summer, for which the Fundraising Committee has set up a Special Fund to raise the $8000 – $10,000 needed. Your contributions, participation and ideas are welcome.
ELECTION.
The slate of officers presented was unanimously approved:

Louise Olsen, president
Emma Amiad, treasurer
Risa Stahl, secretary/treasurer

OPEN DISCUSSION.
1. Louise Olsen attended the SAFE Washington meeting in Seattle and returned with ideas for how to ensure the security of the building. A few ideas that come from this topic: motion-centered lights; annual open house.
2. Andrea Avni suggested we consider how to shift to a more external focus to bring Tikkun Olam to our larger community.
3. Shall we form a TEAM HAVURAH that would volunteer to do community meals on the fifth Friday?
